Abigail

Little Abigail came to the studio with her parents.

I had the honour of photographing Abigails parents wedding several years ago.
Abigail has since been returning to the studio each year and grows more beautiful each time she shows up.

she's always initially a little bit camera shy, then, like a light switch being turned on,
she comes to life - and that's when I seem to get the pictures.

not every picture is a riot of laughter though,

sometimes a pensive mood tells part of the story of what it's like to be Abigail.

Immediately after I'd finished Abigails pictures above,
the studio assistants reminded me
that it was time for our annual 'annoy the neighbours' firework spectactular.

it isn't really that spectacular - and the only neighbours to get annoyed are the boring ones,
and we don't really care about them - heck - it's only once a year that we do it.

we basically buy some huge fireworks and set them off at the side of the studio building,
shrieks, bangs, and bright lights thus end our close of work for the day.

O.K. it's silly.

I know - we're grown ups and we shouldn't be doing that sort of thing.

but we've always done it. we like to do it.

and anyway - this time - Abigail got to see the fun,

it was a pleasure to see her little face lit up by the fireworks.

some of whom always call the police for the firework display.

the police always say the same thing -

'carry on sir, we've only came to enjoy the fireworks . . . '
