PAGE THREE

Balance and imbalance.

symmetry and asymmetry.

I find symmetry appealing in a picture.

Echoing the architectural detail surrounding her, the girl holds her arms and hands in such a way as to appear almost a mirror image to herself.

an asymmetrical composition.

If I knew more about music, I could describe my intentions with this sort of image quite fluently.

however, though I love music,
my technical knowledge in that area is almost zero.

so . . . here goes,

an imbalanced image sometimes strikes a chord in me that although discordant, is still harmonious
(if that makes sense)
imagine a chord which shudders almost all the way through your body but which is exquisitely beautiful,
even though it sounds 'wrong'.

that's what I'm trying to achieve with this image and others like it.

a discordant but exquisite note.

if that makes sense - then you understand me perfectly.

If you don't understand . . .

well, I know what I mean . . . . .

the background is real - she really was jammed up against a neoclassical roofspace.

(just in case you suspected computer wizardry . . there was none - this is a 'straight photograph' .
  strange quirky person

(I'm sure that she won't mind me saying that) . .  more of this model to follow.

the picture was one of a series that I made, inspired by the Icarus legend,
(Icarus - the boy who flew too close to the sun,
the wax holding his wings together melted, so he fell into the sea etc etc).

I wanted a twist on the conventional story , so it's moonlight, not sunlight, and its a girl - not a boy.
(in case you hadn't noticed !)

dunno if you think it works or not,
the wings didn't - they fell apart !

three pix of a girl called Judy. just for fun.

sorry about the purple border . . I started playing with the colour of the leaves,

which led to the colour of the pinline around the border,

which led to . . aw yknow how it is . . .

anyway - it kinda matches the pavement.

(I had the pavement painted specially for this picture).

aw - playing with borders this time,
now the darned border matches the wall . .

what the heck is this photographer on . .

the pictures are OK though . .

don't you think . . . ?
