Chillingham Castle, Northumberland.
The wedding of Sarah and David at Chillingham Castle.
Then dash over
to the little bridesmaid -
she hasn't moved yet - The picture captures the happiness on her face
I think I'm just a lucky photographer,
It had to be luck
-
I didn't plan the picture . .
The pictures on
this page are arranged a little like an album
just for
the fun of it . . . .
to the left - Sarah is getting ready in one of the guest rooms,
She and her feller spent their wedding night in this suite too.
I hope that Chillinghams spooks didn't disturb them !

The creature to
the left . .
is known as a
mother in laws hat . . .
usual habitat :
sideboards, dressers,
mother in laws heads . .
meanwhile . .
Champagne flutes
perch on a window sill.
pity about the finger marks on the glass, but they were actually in use.

On my wanderings, I find myself in the castle courtyard - I glance upwards (brandishing a very long lens which I carry just to impress people)
and find Sarah and her little bridesmaid, gazing down on the guests arriving.
I've tinkered with this picture - made the stonework black and white left the window in colour. .
just for fun . . .

I then race upstairs again - hoping to get the 'other side' of the picture above.
I'm in luck.
the girls are still at the window.
totally unposed.
that's the way I like things . .

Aha -
Sarah heads downstairs
to meet her Father,
he is to walk with her to the man she loves.
as for me. . .
I know it's a romantic picture, . . .
but I get turned on by the shapes and patterns in the spiral staircase.
This is for real . .
official wedding business taking place here . . .
reading vows.
exchanging rings
by candlelight in an ancient castle.

A view from a camera concealed in an alcove
alcovecam.
well - I'm concealed as well as I can be.
there was also a large cauldron in the alcove,
but if I tried
to hide in that
I'd look like a
comic book white man
in a cannibals cooking pot.
It would have amused
the guests though.

I was told to get a picture of ' all the fellers'
here they are - looking sensible . . .

Totally without warning,
David lunges forwards with his brother
who then utters the immortal words
'will you take our picture ?'
oddly enough - that's what I'm there for . .
(I like making pictures anyway . . .)

The wedding squad
hit the gardens
The little bridesmaid who was earlier gazing so beautifully out of the window - now shows that she can run as fast as any grown up . .

I quite like to make 'figure in a landscape' pictures.
a simple picture of a bride and groom is just a bit obvious.
With this kind
of image,
the eye can play with perspective,
the eye can play with the detail near to the wall.
(there is a lot of detail !)
play with the swirly patterns made by the hedge.
and - oh - there's a bride and groom in it too . . .
but it's more than just a portrait . .

The cake
posing
as cakes do .
on a table
white chocolate and fruit.
very very tasteful
and likely to be
very very tasty . . .

I couldn't let this wedding go without making a picture that could grace the cover of a good ghost book . .
well the place IS haunted after all . .
Yes . I've tinkered with it a little . . the staircase is the one that I think looks a bit Venetian . .
the couple,
well . . they're quite well occcupied . . .
The deed is done
and the guests frolic fitfully out of the doorway - hurl the customary confetti
- then trip gaily back inside
as it rain begins to fall.
The day was spent dodging showers like this,
It didn't spoil anything . .
(oh - er - confetti)
I don't think that
they allow
it at Chillingham anymore.
(just a point worth noting).
Also in the garden
with no guests for miles around . . . .
Dave does a little dance
followed by a totally amazing leap . .
totally unplanned.
seen only by the man with the long lens . . !
REALLY GOOD NEWS .
Sarah and David popped into the studio . .
Sarah is now going to have a baby
I've seen the bump . . .
well done !!
A wedding at Chillingham Castle in Northumberland
Chillingham Castle,
Northumberland, began life as a border stronghold in the 12th century,
becoming a true castle (with battlements, dungeons, sieges etc ) in the 14th
century.
the 21st century sees Chillingham Castle as a pretty cool place to hold your
wedding.
Beware, however -
the ghosts of Chillingham castle allegedly make it
the most haunted house in England.
A mysterious blue
boy appears occasionally,
long gone children dressed in white frolic in the grounds and are even rumoured
to
play with visiting children (or so I was told by an enthusiastic guide !)
If this doesn't put
you off - there's even a room where cameras are unable to make a
picture - (I haven't found that one yet - and oddly enough - I don't really
want to !)
I'm totally charmed by the decorative stairway leading into the Castle from
the courtyard.
I think that it's reminiscent of a Venetian Palazzo,
all I can find out so far is that the stairway was built in the 18th century.
